Should Have Been Bigger
- Get Your Own Sometimes, it's a mystery to me why some really good works of my favorite artists don'd do soo good in the charts, especially when they try to get eprsonal and make a social stand. Whatever, entertainment is a form of escapism, and our stars singing about pain or working in films about trials in life similar to ours may have made most uncomfortable.. Anyway, enjoy these gems from Mariah and Madonna, and a clip from Colin Farrell's Alexander , a not so perfect film but it isn't as bad as critics would claim. - Get Your Own Mariah Carey "I Don't Wanna Cry" became Carey's fourth number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making her only the second act (and first female and first solo artist) after The Jackson 5 to have their first four singles make number one on the Hot 100. It also made Mariah Carey a record-breaking album, as every single released from it was a chart-topper in the U.S. It reached number one in its eighth week and spent two weeks at the top, from May 19 to June 1, 1991. It replaced "I Like the Way (the Kissing Game)" by Hi-Five, and was replaced by Extreme's "More Than Words". The single became Carey's third number-one single on the Adult Contemporary chart. It remained in the top forty for thirteen weeks and was one of four singles from Carey on the Hot 100's 1991 year-end charts, ranking twenty-sixth. Outside the U.S., it was one of the least successful of the singles released from Mariah Carey. Like "Someday", it failed to make the Australian top forty and became her first single in Canada to miss the top five, although it did make the top ten. "There's Got to Be a Way" was released as the album's fourth single in the UK instead of "I Don't Wanna Cry". It wasn't as heavily played here in the Philippines compared to "Love Takes Time," "Hero," and others."I don't wanna cry" Once again we sit in silence After all is said and done Only emptiness inside us Baby look what we've become We can make a million promises But we still won't change It isn't right to stay together When you only bring each other pain [Chorus:] I don't wanna cry Don't wanna cry Nothing in the world Could take us back To where we used to be Though I've given you my heart and soul I must find a way of letting go 'Cause baby I don't wanna cry Too far apart to bridge the distance But something keeps us hanging on and on Pretending not to know the difference Denying what we had is gone Every moment we're together It's just breaking me down I know we swore it was forever But it hurts too much to stay around [Chorus] All the magic's gone There's just a shadow of a memory Something just went wrong We can't go on make-believing On make-believing [Chorus] - Get Your Own Madonna On October 24, 1989, "Oh Father" was released in the United States. The song became Madonna's first single since "Holiday" in 1983 not to go Top Ten in the United States, stalling at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song appeared in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 single chart during the week of November 25, 1989, rising 45-40, but would end Madonna's streak of consecutive Top 10 hits. Outside of the U.S., the song also failed to reach the Top Ten. It reached #12 in Japan and #26 in France. It is Madonna's lowest charting single ever in Australia, where it only reached #59, breaking a run of 20 consecutive Top 40 singles. "Oh Father" was not released as a single in the United Kingdom until December 25, 1995, when it appeared on Something to Remember. Released in the UK only, the song peaked at #16 on the UK singles chart. "Oh Father" featured a black and white music video that was directed by David Fincher and was filmed in the fall of 1989. In the video Madonna plays a character that is coming to terms with the abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father. Also included is a scene where Madonna's character is slapped by her lover, suggesting that abused children sometimes fall into abusive relationships as adults. "Oh Father," intentionally or not, lends credence to reports that Sean Penn was violent with Madonna during their marriage. A scene in which the lips of Madonna's character's dead mother are sewn together was asked to be cut out of the video by MTV, but Madonna refused to cut anything out and MTV eventually gave up, allowing Madonna to keep the scene in the video. The music video has been honoured by Rolling Stone as one of the "The 100 Top Music Videos" placing at number sixty-six. It is commercially available on Madonna's The Immaculate Collection (1990) DVD/VHS companion. "Oh Father" It's funny that way, you can get used To the tears and the pain What a child will believe You never loved me [Chorus:] You can't hurt me now I got away from you, I never thought I would You can't make me cry, you once had the power I never felt so good about myself Seems like yesterday I lay down next to your boots and I prayed For your anger to end Oh Father I have sinned [chorus] Oh Father you never wanted to live that way You never wanted to hurt me Why am I running away [repeat] Maybe someday When I look back I'll be able to say You didn't mean to be cruel Somebody hurt you too [chorus] - Get Your Own Colin Farrelloh yeah, watching Colin blow c*ck is soo hot! A scene featuring Colin Farrell having gay sex has been cut from the forthcoming Alexander the Great biopic, after studio bosses feared it was "too explicit." The scene, which was set to feature the Irish pinup with actor Francisco Bosch, was due to appear in "Alexander," in which Farrell plays the legendary warrior. Directed by Oliver Stone, the film has already caused controversy by apparently discussing Alexander's bisexuality, which, although confirmed by scholars, is often overlooked in cinematic biographies. But bosses behind the film fear that the viewing public is not ready to see Farrell have gay sex. "There are scenes between Colin and women, but there's also some passionate scenes between Colin and Bosch," a source told MSNBC. "Some of the suits at Warner Bros. think that the moviegoing public just isn't ready to see that. There's some pretty heated arguments going on over it." It's not the first time that Farrell has had a scene cut. Press reports suggested earlier this year that a scene in "A Home at the End of the World" was cut because it features Farrell completely nude. Bosses feared that the sight of Farrell naked was "too distracting" for the viewer and left the scene on the cutting-room floor. However, the final cut of the film did manage to include Farrell's gay kiss. - Get Your Own
